What it is
A standalone scholarly work on Islam and evolution. It treats Adam as a real and theologically central figure, and asks a moral question: what kind of being can be addressed, instructed, tested, forgiven and held accountable before God? It argues that scientific accounts of how organisms formed do not exhaust what a human being is. In six parts, the book moves from the supposed clash between Islam and evolution through classical Muslim sources and Qur'anic anthropology, the features that ground human responsibility and deep human history, to an assessment of five positions on Adam and human origins and the author's own conclusion.
